Ice Hockey Drops 4-3 Decision to SNHU In Overtime

Framingham, Mass. – Freshman Trevor Nelson (Exeter, N.H.) scored 2:22 into overtime to lift the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen to a come from behind 4-3 overtime win over the Framingham State University Rams in a non-conference game this evening at Framingham's Loring Arena. 

With the win, the Penmen finish their regular season at 5-16-2, while the Rams fall to 4-16-1 with the loss.

The Rams jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead as freshman forward Daniel Miressi (Monroe, Conn.) scored his team leading 18th goal of the season just 32 seconds into the contest.  Classmate Eric Ward (Haverhill, Mass.) and sophomore Ben Pacific (Marlboro, Mass.) assisted on the tally.

The game would remain 1-0 until the closing minutes of the first when senior Brandon Sheehan (Bedford, Mass.) scored a power play goal at 19:41 with Tyler Pascucci (North Reading, Mass.) and Adam Ziegler (Medford, Mass.) assisting sending the game into the first break tied at 1-1.

The Rams retook the lead in the closing minutes of the second period on a Peter Baldwin (Port Williams, Nova Scotia) goal at 17:22 with Aran Ward (Dunstable, Mass.) and Tom Manning (Rockland, Mass.) assisting.

Southern New Hampshire opened the third period with two goals to take their first lead of the game.  Sheehan scored his second of the contest just 15 seconds into the period and Ziegler added a power play tally at 6:24.  Just under two minutes later the Rams answered with the game tying goal as freshman Tom Tracy (Wakefield, Mass.) scored on the power play at 8:18. 

Neither team would capitalize on their scoring chances late in the third period and the game would remain tied at 3-3 heading to overtime.  Nelson scored the decisive goal just 2:22 into the extra frame off assists from Pascucci and Ziegler.

The Penmen outshot the Rams 45-33 in the game and converted on 2-of-8 power play opportunities, while the Rams capitalized on 1-of-3.  Todd Rowley (Billerica, Mass.) picked up the loss between the pipes for the Rams making 41 saves, while Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.) made 30 saves and picked up the win.

Ziegler finished the game with a goal and two assists for the Penmen, while Sheehan finished with two goals and a helper.  Pascucci also picked up three points in the game on three assists.

The Rams were led by Baldwin who finished with a goal and an assist, while Aran Ward finished with two assists.

The Rams close out the regular season on Thursday night as they host UMass Dartmouth at 7:30 p.m.
