Ice Hockey Shuts Out Worcester State 1-0

Framingham, Mass. – Senior goaltender Terence Sullivan (Shirley, Mass.) made 23 saves and sophomore Kenny Kocsan (Bel Air, MD) scored the game's lone goal as the Framingham State University ice hockey team defeated Worcester State 1-0 this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's ice hockey action at Loring Arena.

The Rams, winners of two in a row, improve to 4-14-1 overall and 4-10-1 in the MASCAC, while the Lancers slip to 9-9-3 overall and 5-8-1 in the conference.

After a scoreless first period, the Rams offense came out blazing to start the second and it did not take long to find the back of the net.  Junior Jon Vaillancourt (La Valle, WI) fed the puck to Kocsan who connected on his first of the season and what proved to be the game-winner just 5:29 into the second period.

The Rams outshot the Lancers 31-23 in the game and Sullivan turned away everything the Lancers fired in his direction.  The win is Sullivan's third of the season and his first shutout win.  Worcester State junior goalie Bryan Kalczynski (Tonawanda, NY) was equally impressive turning away 30 of the 31 shots sent his way.

Neither team could capitalize on their power play opportunities as all 11 power plays in the game were successfully killed.  The Rams were 0-for-5 with the man advantage, while the Lancers were 0-for-6.

Both teams return to MASCAC action on Thursday as the Rams travel to Salem State for a 7 p.m. faceoff and the Lancers travel to UMass Dartmouth at 7:30 p.m.
