Ice Hockey Downed by Westfield State

Westfield, Mass. – Senior center Dennis Zak (Dover, NJ) tallied four goals and four assists to power Westfield State University to an 11-2 trouncing of Framingham State University in men's ice hockey on Saturday, Feb. 5.

The Owls, who upset Plymouth State, 4-0, on Thursday, are now 3-9-1 in the MASCAC and 4-14-2 overall. Framingham is 2-10-1 and 2-14-1 overall.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first period but the Owls exploded for five goals in both the second and third periods.  Junior forward Pat Nelson (2 goals, 2 assists) and freshman forward Vince Perreault (2 goals, 1 assist) were the Owls' other multiple goal scorers. Senior Drew LaCombe contributed a goal and two assists and freshman Josh McCully had three helpers.

Westfield scored six of its goals on power plays in the rugged game in which 32 penalties were whistled.

Freshman goalie Eddie Davey registered his second straight victory this week; he made 29 saves.
