Miressi Notches Hat Trick as Ice Hockey Battles Salem State to 5-5 Draw

Framingham, Mass. – Framingham State freshman forward Daniel Miressi (Monroe, CT) notched his first collegiate hat trick and Salem State sophomore Derek Crocker (Wakefield, Mass.) also picked up a hat trick as Framingham State and Salem State battled to a 5-5 overtime draw in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's ice hockey action this afternoon at Loring Arena.

With the tie, the Rams improve to 2-10-1 on the year and 2-7-1 in the conference, while the Vikings are now 10-4-2 overall and 5-3-2 in the MASCAC.

Miressi scored a career-high four points in the game with his three goals and an assist and leads the Rams with 18 points on the season.  Sophomore Ben Pacific (Marlborough, Mass.) chipped in two points on a goal and an assist.

Senior Josh Franklin (Wrentham, Mass.) dished out three assists in the game for the Vikings, while classmate Sam Cannata (Bozeman, MT) added two.  Sophomore Nick Lampson (Groton, Mass.) added a goal and an assist for the visitors.

Framingham State jumped out to a 2-0 lead midway through the first period as freshman Matt Margolis (Raleigh, NC) tallied his second of the season at 9:18 and Pacific found the back of the net at 9:54.  Salem State cut the Rams lead in half on Nick Del Rosso's (San Mateo, CA) first tally of the season at the 13:29 mark and Lampson tied the score at 2-2 with a power play goal with just 15 seconds left in the first.

The Rams took a two goal lead again in the second as Miressi scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season at 9:23 and his second of the game at 13:38 when he maneuvered through the Viking defense and found the back of the net.  Salem State would tie the game before the second intermission as Crocker added two power play goals.

With the score still tied at 4-4 in the third, Pacific fed Miressi the puck and Miressi found the back of the net for the hat trick giving the Rams a 5-4 lead with 6:48 remaining.  The Rams would maintain the one goal advantage until the final minute when Crocker connected on his third of the game with just 22 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime.

In the overtime period the Vikings outshot the Rams 5-0, but Framingham State senior goal tender Terence Sullivan (Shirley, Mass.), who finished the game with 46 saves, turned all five shots away to preserve the tie.

The Vikings outshot the Rams 51-27 in the game and converted 3-of-9 power plays, while the Rams only converted on 1-of-11.  Ryan Sutliffe went the distance in goal for the Vikings making 22 saves.

Both teams return to MASCAC action on Thursday as the Rams host Plymouth State at 7:20 p.m. and the Vikings travel to Westfield State at 7:35 p.m.
