Ice Hockey Opens Second Semester with 3-1 Win Over Westfield State

Framingham, Mass. – Freshman Daniel Miressi (Monroe, CT) picked up a goal and an assists and junior Aran Ward (Dunstable, Mass.) added two assists as the Framingham State University ice hockey team broke into the win column defeating Westfield State tonight 3-1 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's ice hockey action at Loring Arena.

With the win, the Rams improve to 1-9 on the season and 1-6 in the MASCAC, while the loss drops the Owls to 2-11-1 overall and 1-6 in conference. 

Freshman forward Eric Ward (Haverhill, Mass.) gave the Rams, who were playing their first game since December 11th, a 1-0 lead just 7:40 into the game as he scored his fifth goal of the season. 

The Rams doubled their lead just over two minutes later as sophomore Ben Pacific (Marlborough, Mass.) scored what would prove to be the game winner off assists from Ward and Miressi.

Westfield State would cut the gap in half with just over seven minutes to play in the first as sophomore Lucas Romero (Roho Sta Marg, CA) scored a power play goal and his fifth of the year off assists from Vince Perreault (Braeside, Ontario) and A.J. Shiverdecker (Kettering, OH).

The score would remain 2-1 after a scoreless and physical second period and Miressi tacked on a power play goal late in the third to reach the final margin of 3-1.

Freshman Nick Cafrelli (San Jose, CA) picked up the win in net for the Rams making 21 saves, while Ray Monroe (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was tagged with the loss for the Owls as he made 35 stops.

The Rams outshot the Owls 38-22 in the contest with the Rams converting on one of three power plays, while the Owls converted one of five.

The Rams return to action on Saturday as they host Fitchburg State at 2:30 p.m., while the Owls travel to UMass Dartmouth on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
