Plymouth State Downs Ice Hockey 9-1
Framingham, Mass. — Junior Brian Kriner (Newport, RI) scored four goals and picked up an assists as the Plymouth State University ice hockey team defeated the host Framingham State University Rams 9-1 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's ice hockey action. With the win, the Panthers improve to 3-1-2 overall on the year and 1-1-2 in conference, while the loss drops the Rams to 0-7 overall and 0-5 in the MASCAC.
Framingham State took a 1-0 lead just 5:13 into the game as freshman Daniel Miressi (Monroe, CT) scored unassisted. Miressi leads the Rams this season with six goals and nine points.
The Rams lead would prove to be short lived as just under a minute later senior Andrew Stewart (O'Leary, PEI) scored the game tying goal off assists from Travis Stevens (Montclair, CA) and Kyle Greco (Hillside, IL). Stevens would put the Panthers ahead for good midway through the first with his tally and Kriner scored his first of the game with just under two minutes remaining in the period off assists from Greco, who finished the game with three assists, and Alex Cottle to give the Panthers a 3-1 lead after one.
In the second period, the Panthers added four more as Kriner scored twice and Richie Zobak and Sean Foley each scored once to push the Panthers lead to 7-1 after two. The Panters added two more in the third as Kriner scored his fourth of the game and Cottle, who finished the game with four assists, scored at 16:52 to reach the final margin of 9-1.
Sophomore Jack Astedt picked up the win in net for the Panthers making 21 saves in two periods of work, while Tyler Igerson made ten saves in one period of action. Freshman Nick Cafrelli (San Jose, CA) made 20 saves for the Rams and allowed five goals before being replaced by senior Terence Sullivan (Shirley, Mass.) who also made 20 stops and allowed four goals.
The Rams return to action on Thursday as they host UMass Dartmouth at 7:20 p.m., while the Panthers travel to Fitchburg State on Thursday at 7 p.m.
