Worcester State Holds Off Ice Hockey for 4-3 Win

Framingham, Mass. — The Worcester State University ice hockey team scored three goals in the second period and held off a late third period surge by the Framingham State University Rams to pick up a 4-3 victory tonight in Massachusetts Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) ice hockey action at Framingham's Loring Arena.  With the win the Lancers improve to 1-1-2 on the year and 1-0 in the MASCAC, while the loss drops the Rams to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Worcester State University took a 1-0 lead in the first period as freshman Brendan Galley scored a power play goal off assists from Tim D'Orazio and John Cahalane at the 12:08 mark.

The Lancers extended their lead to 3-0 in the opening minutes of the second period with two goals twenty seconds apart.  Cahalane scored at 2:52 off D'Orazio's second assist of the game and D'Orazio scored unassisted at 3:12.

The Rams cut into the Lancers lead halfway through the period when freshman Corey Dinwiddi (Santa Clarita, CA) scored a power play goal off assists from freshmen Bo Driscoll (Chelmsford, Mass.) and  Matt Margolis (Raleigh, NC).

The Lancers pushed the lead back to three goals when Tyson Cox scored what proved to be the game winner with just 1:07 remaining in the third period.

The Rams made things interesting in the third period as Miressi scored twice in the period.  His first of the period came just 3:30 into the frame off assists from Peter Baldwin and Dinwiddie to pull the Rams back within two goals.  His second came with just 1:26 remaining in the period to make it a one goal game, but the Rams were not able to score the tying mark after they pulled their goaltender and skated with the man advantage for the final 1:04.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday as they travel to UMass Boston at 7 p.m., while the Lancers travel to Plymouth on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
