Ice Hockey Opens Season with 3-2 Loss at Suffolk

Boston, Mass. -  Senior Zach Barron (St. Louis, Mo.) scored a pair of goals to lead Suffolk to a 3-2 non-league college men's ice hockey victory over Framingham State Wednesday evening at Walter Brown Arena.

Markers by Zach Barron and his freshman brother Max (St. Louis, Mo.) in the second period enabled Suffolk's Rams (2-1) to take a 2-1 advantage after 40 minutes of play after freshman Eric Ward (Haverhill, Mass.) had staked Framingham's Rams (0-1) to the early lead with 3:30 remaining in the opening stanza.  Zach Barron's second tally with three minutes to play in the contest extended Suffolk's edge to 3-1, but freshman Matt Margolis (Raleigh, N.C.) sliced Framingham's deficit back to one just 20 seconds later to close out the scoring, as the visitors pulled no closer with an extra attacker over the final 46 seconds of play.

Sophomore Andrew Flynn (Stamford, Conn.) notched a pair of assists on Zach Barron's goals in the triumph for Suffolk, which also received a single helper off the stick of sophomore Matt Robertson (Whitman, Mass.).  Ward added an assist to go with his goal in the setback for Framingham State, which also received helpers from freshmen Bo Driscoll (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Daniel Miressi (Monroe, Conn.).

Senior Jeff Rose (Collinsville, Conn.) picked up the win in goal for Suffolk with a 20-save effort, while senior Terence Sullivan (Shirley, Mass.) made 25 stops in net in the setback for Framingham State as Suffolk's Rams held a 28-22 advantage in shots on goal for the evening.

Suffolk hosts UMass Dartmouth in a non-league outing on Saturday evening at Walter Brown Arena beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Framingham State heads to Westfield, Mass. next Tuesday evening to take on Westfield State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match-up that faces-off at 7:35 p.m.
