Ice Hockey Falls Short Against Salem State

Framingham, Mass. - The Salem State ice hockey team scored two goals in the first minute en route to a 5-3 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) win over Framingham State on Thursday night at Loring Arena.  With the win, the Vikings improve to 5-1 on the season and 4-0 in the MASCAC, while the loss drops the Rams to 1-3 in conference and 1-5-1 overall.

Freshman forward Dan Rowland (Waltham, Mass.) put the Vikings on the board just 16 seconds into the game as he scored his first collegiate goals off assists from Damen Nisula (Gardner, Mass.) and Matt Johnson (Lynn, Mass.).  The Vikings extended their lead to 2-0 as Nick Lampson (Groton, Mass.) scored his first of the game at 53 seconds. 

The Vikings led 3-0 in the first before senior Joe Hurley (Charlestown, Mass.) got the Rams on the board with his team leading sixth goal of the season at 13:54.  Senior Jason Anderson (Arden Hills, MN) assisted on the tally.

Justin Roy (North Bay, Ontario) put the Vikings back up by three with a power play goal at 15:48 in the second.  Anderson brought the Rams back within two three minutes later with his first of the game. 

Salem and Framingham would add goals late in the third period to reach the final margin of 5-3.  Lampson scored his second of the game, a power play goal at 18:33, and Anderson added his second for the Rams at 18:47.

Terence Sullivan (Shirley, Mass.) faced 50 shots in the game and made 45 saves for the Rams, while Salem State goalie Lames LaCour (Silver Springs, MD) made 19 saves and picked up his fifth win of the season.

Both teams return to MASCAC action on Saturday as the Rams travel to Plymouth State at 6 p.m. and the Vikings travel to Westfield State at 5:30 p.m.
