Box Score

Auburn, Mass. - The Framingham State ice hockey team scored three goals in the first period en route to a 6-1 win tonight over Worcester State in Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) ice hockey action.  The win snaps a 15-game winless streak for the Rams as they improve to 2-17-2 on the season and 2-12-1 in the MASCAC.  The loss drops the Lancers to 5-13-2 overall and 3-9-2 in conference.

Senior forward Joe Hurley (Charlestown, Mass.) led the Rams with two goals and an assist for three points in the game, while freshman Nick Calma (Simi Valley, CA) and senior Matt Lally (Natick, Mass.) chipped in a goal and two assists apiece.  Senior Brett Casavant (Gardner, Mass.) picked up four assists in the game.

The Rams, who have been prone to slow starts this season, wasted no time getting on the board tonight as Lally scored an unassisted goal, his seventh goal of the season, just 30 seconds into the game.

Framingham would extend their lead to 2-0 just six minutes later as senior forward Trevor Johnson (Anchorage, AK) tallied a shorthanded goal that would prove to be the game winner.  Hurley, who assisted on Johnson's tally, added a power-play goal and his 12th of the season at 16:04 to give the Rams a commanding 3-0 lead at the first intermission.

In the second period, the Rams would extend their lead to 5-0 with two goals in the closing minutes.  Calma tallied his third of the season at 18:21 and just 11 seconds later Hurley added his second of the game at 18:32.  Casavant and Lally assisted on both goals in the second for the Rams.

Eric Walsh (Haverhill, Mass.) extended the Rams lead to 6-0 at the 14:29 mark of the third period, before Andrew Brady tallied the Lancers lone goal at 17:39 to reach the final score.

Worcester State outshot the Rams 47-33 in the game, but Framingham State goalie Terence Sullivan (Shirley, Mass.) was outstanding between the pipes making 46 saves en route to the win.  Zach Hansen came on in relief during the first period in net for the Lancers and made 26 saves.

The Rams converted 2-of-6 power play chances in the games and scored a shorthanded goal, while the Lancers were 0-for-6 with the man advantage.

Framingham State returns to action on Thursday night at Loring Arena as they host Salem State at 7:20 p.m.
