Ice Hockey Falls 6-3 to Fitchburg State

Framingham, Mass. - The Fitchburg State College ice hockey team scored three goals in the first five minutes en route to a 6-3 win over Framingham State tonight on the road at Loring Arena in Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) ice hockey action. With the win, the Falcons remain atop the MASCAC standings at 11-2 in conference and 16-3-1 overall, while the Rams fall to 1-12-1 in the MASCAC and 1-17-2 overall.

Junior forward Andrew Jones' (Franklin, Mass.) goal just 2:58 into the game gave the Falcons the early lead.  Junior Eric Trahan (Manville, R.I.) and sophomore Thomas McAleer (East Islip, N.Y.) extended the Falcons lead to 3-0 with their goals just 15 seconds apart at 4:07 and 4:22 of the first period. 

Junior Terence Sullivan (Shirley, Mass.) who finished the game with 29 saves for the Rams, entered the game after the Falcons third goal and made 12 stops to keep the score 3-0 after one.

Sophomore Tucker Callen (Annadale, N.J.), who finished the game with a goal and an assist, scored what proved to be the game winner just 3:03 into the second. Callen's tally gave the Falcons a comfortable 4-0 lead.

The Rams responded with two goals of their own to chip away at the Falcons lead. Eric Walsh (Haverhill, Mass.) scored his third of the season at 5:03 and Trevor Johnson tallied his third goal of the season at 8:10 to make the score 4-2.

Fitchburg State would add a power play goal late in the second from Trevor Lawler (Fitchburg, Mass.) and Kris Threlkeld (Centerville, Ohio) added his ninth of the year early in the third to push the Falcons lead to 6-2.

Senior Matt Lally (Natick, Mass.) scored his sixth of the season at 6:16 to pull the Rams within three at 6-3, but Fitchburg State goalie Robert Vorse (Leominster, Mass.), who made 26 saves in the game, kept the Rams off the board down the stretch.

Both teams continue with MASCAC action on Saturday as the Rams travel to Worcester State at 7:30 p.m., and the Falcons host Salem State at 7 p.m.
