Plymouth State University Skates Past Ice Hockey, 6-2
Waterville Valley, N.H. - Sophomore Chris Zaremba (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and junior Dave Rose (Haddonfield, N.J.) combined for three goals and four assists Thursday evening as Plymouth State University skated past Framingham State College, 6-2, in a Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's ice hockey game at Waterville Valley Arena.
Zaremba scored two goals and added one assist while Rose collected one goal and three assists to help the Panthers to their fifth consecutive victory. PSU, which went 4-of-8 on the power play, is now 11-6 overall and 7-3 in the MASCAC, while Framingham State falls to 1-13-2 overall and 1-9-1 in conference play.
Another PSU highlight to the game was provided by senior Chris Chambers (Crofton, Md.), who picked up a pair of first-period assists to push his career point total to 100. He now has 51 goals and 49 assists in 89 games, becoming just the eighth player in school history to record 100 career points.
Seniors Brett Casavant (Gardner, Mass.) and Matt Lally (Natick, Mass.) led the Rams with a power play goal and an assist each.
Zaremba and Rose each tallied power play goals for Plymouth State to give the home team a 2-0 lead. The Panthers extended their lead to 4-0 in the first two minutes of the second period as junior Sean Buckley (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) and freshman Chad Wilhelm (Plymouth, Mich.) scored goals just a minute and 35 seconds apart.
Framingham State broke onto the scoreboard with five minutes to go in the middle frame, but Zaremba notched his second of the game three minutes later to make it a four-goal game again. PSU freshman Alex Cottle (West Chester, Pa.) and Casavant traded third-period goals to round out the scoring.
PSU finished with a 40-30 advantage in shots on goal. Freshman Jack Astedt (Angelholm, Sweden) made 28 saves to earn the victory in the PSU goal.
Plymouth State will look for its sixth in a row Saturday with a key MASCAC game at Fitchburg State (4:00 p.m.). Framingham State returns home to begin a four-game home stand on Saturday against UMass Dartmouth (2:30 p.m.)
