Ice Hockey Skates to 5-5 Tie with Brockport
Framingham, MA - Senior Tim Crowley (Brasher Falls, NY) and
freshman James Cody (Schwenksville, PA) each scored goals in the
final 1:15 of the third period to even the score as The College at
Brockport ice hockey team salvaged a 5-5 tie with the Framingham
State Rams tonight at Loring Arena.
Framingham State moves to 0-12-3 on the season, while Brockport
(7-5-3) extended its unbeaten streak to six games (4-0-2) with the
tie. The two teams will square off again tomorrow at Loring
Arena at 2:30 p.m.
The Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead at the 18 minute mark of the
first period as Justin Noble (Georgetown, ONT) took a quick pass
from Cody after a face off win by Ray Tremblay (Peachland, BC) and
beat the Framingham goalie.
In the second period, Framingham scored three times to take a 3-1
lead with just over nine minutes remaining in the frame.
Junior defenseman Brett Casavant (Gardner, MA) scored off an assist
from senior forward Sean Maguire (Plymouth, MA) at 3:57 and junior
forward Jason Anderson (Arden Hills, MN) scored goals at 6:32 and
10:58. Junior Joe Hurley (Charlestown, MA) assisted on the
first tally and junior captain Jeremy Schmidt (Huffman, TX assisted
on the second.
Brockport battled back and scored two goals less than two
minutes apart to tie the game at 3-3 heading into the second
intermission. Andrew Simmons (Middleburg, NY) scored at the
13 minute mark and Jason Gorrie (Etobicoke, ONT) added his at
14:27.
Framingham regained the lead early in the third period with a goal
by Schmidt just 28 seconds into the final period and took a 5-3
lead midway through the period as Hurley added a goal with the
teams playing 4-on-4 hockey.
With less than two minutes to go in the third period, goalie Todd
Sheridan (Edison, NJ) was pulled for the extra attacker and it paid
off as Rick Stanek (Clinton, NY) took a high shot that deflected
off the glass behind the net and Crowley was able to score to cut
the lead to 5-4.
Brockport would tie the game with 39 seconds left as Cody
controlled the loose puck near the blue line and fired a hard shot
toward the goal that beat the Framingham goalie.
In overtime, Brockport held a 6-1 shots advantage but could not
find the back of the net as Framingham State goalie Terence
Sullivan (Shirley, MA), who finished with 48 saves in the game,
turned away all six shots he faced in the extra session.
