Southern Maine Downs Framingham State 6-2

Gorham, ME  - Freshman Korey Celik (Ile-bizzard, Quebec) stopped 22 of 24 shots and the University of Southern Maine got goals from six different players en route to a 6-2 victory over the Framingham State College Rams in a non-conference game Tuesday night at the USM Ice Arena.  The win levels the Huskies' overall record a 5-5, while the Rams fall to 0-10-2 overall.

Sophomore Zach Joy (Dover, N.H.) paced the Southern Maine offense with a goal and two assists.  Senior Dan Gordon (Lynnfield, Mass.) and sophomore Steve Wiedler (Farmingville, N.Y.) each had a goal and an assist.  Sophomore Jon Rutt (Scarborough, Maine) chipped in a pair of assists.

Junior Josh Williams (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and freshman Corey Chaney (Oxford, Mich.) scored power-play goals for Framingham State. Jason Anderson (Arden Hills, MN) and Sean Maguire (Plymouth, MA) picked up assists for the Rams.

Senior Ben Loss (Wilmette, Ill.) and Gordon scored as the Huskies built a 2-0 lead in the opening period, out shooting the visiting Rams 12-6.

The margin grew to 5-0 in the middle period on goals by Joy and sophomores Mike Carpenter (Minot, Maine) and Paul Conter (Woodbridge, Ontario).  Williams snapped the run of USM goals with his power-play marker at 17:56.

Wielder tallied at short-handed goal at 13:32, but the Huskies gave it right back nine seconds later as Chaney potted a power-play goal.

Celik had a strong second period making 11 of his 22 saves.  FSC junior Andy Joyce (Milford, Mass.) allowed four goals and made 11 saves before being lifted in the second period.  Sophomore Terence Sullivan (Shirley, Mass.) came on to permit two more goals and make 16 saves.

Southern Maine returns to league play on Friday (7:00 p.m.) traveling to Hartford, Conn., to play Trinity University.  Framingham State will seek its first win on Saturday (7:40 p.m.) when it hosts Becker College in ECAC Northeast league play.
