Ice Hockey Drops Home Opener to Johnson & Wales

Framingham, MA - The Framingham State College ice hockey team dropped their home opener tonight at Loring Arena 7-1 to Johnson & Wales University.  Johnson & Wales moves to 1-1-0 on the season with the win, while the Rams are still in search of their first win of the young season at 0-3-0.

Johnson & Wales outshot the Rams 46-36 in the game and proved to have too much offensive firepower for the Rams.  Wildcat senior forward Ryan Jacobs (Derby, VT) had an outstanding game as he picked up a hat trick and one assist.  Jacobs put the Wildcats ahead for good with 9:26 gone in the opening period as he scored his first goal of the game.  Matt McGilvray (Rochester, NH) and Craig Houle (Burrilville, RI) assisted on the goal.   McGilvray would extend the Wildcats lead to 2-0 just before the end of the first period with what proved to be the game winning goal.

After Johnson & Wales scored off the opening face off of the second period to extend their lead to 3-0, the Rams would cut the deficit to 3-1 as senior forward Stephen Butler (Dorchester, MA) scored 4:37 into the second period.  That was as close as the Rams would get as Johnson & Wales added two more goals in the second period from Jacobs and Mike O'Malley (Woonsocket, RI) and two more in the third period from Jacobs and James Shea (Belmont, MA).

The Rams return to action on November 13th as they travel to Salve Regina for a 6:30 p.m. game.
