Ice Hockey Falls to Seventh Ranked Southern Maine

Framingham, MA - The Framingham State College ice hockey team lost a heartbreaker tonight 6-5 in the final minute of play at Loring Arena to the 7th ranked University of Southern Maine Huskies.  With the win, The Huskies remain unbeaten this season at 10-0-1, while the Rams slide to 1-12-0.

Southern Maine took a 2-0 lead just six minutes into the game as sophomore forward Pat Noonan (Burlington, MA) scored his seventh goal of the season and fellow sophomore Paul Conter (Woodbridge, ONT) knocked home his fifth of the season.  The Rams would cut the lead in half as senior Jon Lamken (Wareham, MA) scored off assists from Jason Anderson (Arden Hills, MN) and Steve Butler (Dorchester, MA).

In the second period the Rams took the lead as Anderson and sophomore Joe Mulvey (Marlboro, MA) scored goals at 4:13 and 4:34.  Southern Maine would respond with two goals of their own at 5:54 and 12:08 to take a 4-3 lead into the second intermission.

Senior Tim Richard (Leominster, MA) scored a power play goal 5:31 into the third period to tie the game at 4-4.  However, Southern Maine retook the lead at 9:45 as sophomore Chris Travis (Scituate, MA) scored on a delayed penalty call.  Rams senior Nicholas Glum (Bellingham, MA) would tie the game again with a shorthanded unassisted goal with 8:02 remaining in the game.

Travis would score the game winner for the Huskies with 38 seconds remaining in the game as he took a loose puck in front of the net and scored his second of the game.  Peter Dundovich (Philadelphia, PA) made 46 saves in the loss, while Tyler Ravlo (Yarmouth, Nova Scotia) made 31 saves and picked up his first win of the season.

The Framingham State Rams return to action on Friday, January 11th as they travel to SUNY Brockport for a 7 p.m. game and follow that up with a 3 p.m. game also at Brockport on Saturday.
