Bio

With over 16 years of college coaching experience, the 2021-22 season will be the first season at the helm of the Framingham State men's basketball program for Donald Morris, Jr. The Somerville native has seen success at coaching stints including MassBay Community College, Newbury College, Emerson College, Daniel Webster College, Suffolk University and Lesley University.

Prior to Framingham, Coach Morris was the Head Men's Basketball Coach for the MassBay Community College Buccaneers. The Buccaneers showed remarkable improvement under Head Coach Donald Morris Jr. The Buccaneers increased their win total from the previous year, earned a playoff berth in the Region 21 playoffs, defeated four national ranked teams, finished 10th in opponents field goal percentage and 7th in points allowed per game in the NJCAA Division III. On the offensive end the Buccaneers were 2nd in field goal percentage and 2nd in 3pt percentage in the country for NJCAA Division III. Coach Morris and his staff produced two all-conference players that were top 5 in the conference in field goal percentage and three point percentage. Both players went on to receive athletic scholarships to continue their education and athletic careers at four year institutions.

Prior to MassBay, Coach Morris was the Associate Head Coach at Newbury College for the 2018-19 season where the Nighthawks advanced to the NECC Championship game for the first time in school history. In 2017-2018 Coach Morris was the Assistant Coach at Emerson College. From 2006-2014, Donald Morris Jr was the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Lesley University, making appearances in the NAC finals and the NECC Semi Finals. Coach Morris produced Lesley Universities first D3 All-American Men’s basketball player, and had several players receive National “Scholar-Baller” Awards in conjunction with the National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS). As the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Daniel Webster College, Coach Morris produced the first D3 All-American player in school history, and advanced to the NECC Semi-Finals.

Coach Morris has also worked closely with staff from the Iowa Wolves NBA G-League, Minnesota Timberwolves, Orlando Magic, Boston Celtics and the New England Falcons, a Women’s Semi Pro Team. During Coach Morris’ career coaching collegiate basketball, he has won over 100 games and had 10 players sign professional basketball contracts to play overseas and workout with NBA G-League teams. Coach Morris owns his own AAU program, called Basketball 2 the Limit, which has sent over 250 student-athletes to play collegiate basketball at D1, D2 and D3 schools all across the country in the past 14 years.

Coach Morris began his basketball career as a four year starter at Somerville High School in Somerville, Massachusetts. During his four years at Somerville he was a two - time Greater Boston League All Star and one of the Boston Globe’s and Herald's "preseason players to watch." Upon graduating from Somerville High School, Donald Morris Jr received a scholarship to attend Notre Dame Prep, one of the top prep schools in New England. He then earned a scholarship to Dean Junior College where he was a two year captain and leading scorer for the Bulldogs his senior year, earning the team's MVP award and an All - Conference Nomination. Coach Morris graduated from Dean Junior College with an associate's degree in Sports Management.

Coach Morris then went on to play at Division II Southern New Hampshire University. After some time at SNHU, Coach Morris returned home to Boston to finish his education at Lesley University. In 2005 Coach Morris graduated from Lesley University with a Bachelor's degree in Sports Management.

Coach Morris was invited to try out for the Cape Cod Frenzy, Newark Express, and the Charlotte Blue Waves who are in the ABA and P.B.L. He has coached at exclusive basketball camps across the country such as Five Star, Eastern Invitational, Hoop Mountain, Red Auerbach School, Nike Southern Preps, the Boston Celtics Camp, Dana Barros Camp, and several others. Coach Morris resides in Melrose, MA with his wife and their son Donald Morris III.
