Last Second Free Throws Send Men's Basketball Past Lesley 61-59

Medford, Mass.  The Framingham State University men's basketball team received a pair of free throws from Jahden Erold with three seconds left on the clock to lift the Rams to a 61-59 victory over Lesley University this afternoon in non-conference action.  

THE BASICS:

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Rams were led on the offensive end of the floor by a team-high 18 points and 11 rebounds from Keith Hollman. Hollman connected on 7-of-12 from the field and added two steals. 

  • Erold finished the game with 12 points for the Rams including the game-winning free throws. He added four rebounds, two assists and a steal. 

  • Javaris Hill connected on 6-of-9 from the floor en route to 12 points and added five rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block. 

  • Marco Powells paced the Lynx with 20 points, three rebounds and three steals, while Kyle Murphy finished the game with 11 points and six boards. 

  • Gabe McCrary tallied 10 points with five rebounds, five steals and two assists. 

  • The Rams shot 47% from the floor in the game, while the Lynx just connected on 35% of their offerings. 

  • The Rams held a 48-28 edge in points in the paint and a 12-4 edge in second chance points. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The game was back-and-forth the entire way with the Lynx holding a slim three-point lead at the half, 29-26. 

  • The second half mirrored the first with the two teams trading the lead. The Rams opened up a seven point lead, 47-40, on a Holman bucket midway into the second half. 

  • A Hollman three-point play pushed the lead to 50-40 with 8:33 on the clock. The Rams held the Lynx without a point for four minutes as they built the ten point advantage. 

  • The Lynx used an 11-2 run over the next six minutes to pull within one, 52-51, with 2:38 on the clock. 

  • An Erold layup pushed the lead back to three, but Lesley answered with a bucket making the score 54-53 with 2:08 on the clock. 

  • Mitchgell Merizier three-point play put the Rams up 57-53, but a Lesley three cut the gap back to one with a minute on the clock. 

  • A Hollman bucket and another Lesley three knotted the score at 59-59 with 31 ticks left on the clock. 

  • The Rams had possession and after multiple timeouts had a chance for the lead after a bang-bang play at the rim resulted in a Lesley foul sending Erold to the line. Erold sank both with three seconds on the clock and the Rams were able to keep the Lynx from getting a shot off in the closing seconds to secure the victory.
