Plymouth Outlasts Men’s Basketball 58-51

Framingham, Mass.- The Plymouth State Panthers scored the game's final 7 points in the last 90 seconds to seal a 58-51 victory over Framingham State Tuesday evening in non-conference action. With the win the Panthers improve to 3-3 while the Rams slip to 2-6.

The Panthers were paced by junior Mike Osgood (Nashua, NH) and sophomore Jaylen Leroy (Manchester, NH) who each tallied 15 points and junior Chase Soares (Falmouth, Mass.) added 12 points off the bench.

The Rams were led by junior guard Manny Payton (Fitchburg, Mass.) who scored a game-high 20 points while sophomore Tyri Hampton (Fitchburg, Mass.) added 12 points of his own.

The Panthers took the lead into halftime and extended it to as much as ten in the opening minutes of the second half but the Rams surged back. The hosts fought back to regain the lead on a Hampton trey about midway through the frame but the visitors answered again extending their lead to 7 with just under seven minutes to play. The Rams went on 10-3 run capped by a Hampton floater to tie the game at 51 with 1:37 to play.

Coming out of a Plymouth timeout with 1:26 to play Osgood gave PSU the lead putting in a layup and converting the and-one. After a defensive stop and Rams foul Leroy hit his two free throws. After a turnover and another Rams foul Leroy put the game away hitting two more from the line.

The visitors were 24-for-52 (40.4%) from the floor and 4-of-12 (33.3%) from long range. The Rams were just 18-of-57 (31.6%) from the floor and 3-for-18 (16.7%) from beyond the arc.

The Rams return to the hardwood on Thursday as they host Lesley at 8pm. The Panthers travel to Elms on the same day for a 7pm start.
