Westfield Outlasts Men’s Basketball; 63-47

Framingham, Mass.- Westfield State senior Jesus Sanchez (Springfield, Mass.) scored a game-high 24 points en route to a 63-47 win over Framingham State in MASCAC action Saturday afternoon in Framingham. With the win the Owls improve to 7-13 and 4-5 in the league. The Rams are now 6-16 and 3-6 in conference action.

The Owls were paced by Sanchez who shot 50% from the field and 5-of-7 from the line. Peter Mafo (Lynn, Mass.) scored 10 points, seven of which came from the charity stripe, and added 5 assists. Shane Pasquantonio (Ashland, Mass.) added a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Rams received a team-high 12 points from Tim Mangano (Winchester, Mass.) and Wes Ogbevoen (Boston, Mass.) added 10 points.

The two teams played a back and forth first half but Framingham's Ogbevoen hit a trey with six seconds to play in the frame to take a 21-19 lead at half.

After a couple lead changes in the second frame the Owls took control when Mafo made the first of his two free throws to tie the game at 31 and start an 11-3 run for the Owls. The Rams answered to cut the lead back to four points, 42-38, on a pair of free throws by Tyri Hampton (Fitchburg, Mass.) with 8:35 to play.   The Owls again responded, this time with a 14-3 run that put the game away.

The Rams return to the hardwood on Wednesday, February 8th when they host MCLA on senior night at Framingham State. The Owls travel to Elms on the same day for a non-conference matchup.
