Camels Hang on for 67-64 Win Over Men’s Basketball

Framingham, Mass.- The Connecticut College men's basketball team held on for a 67-64 win over Framingham State in a back and forth contest that saw 6 ties and seven lead changes in non-conference action Tuesday evening in Framingham. With the win the Camels are now 10-5 while the Rams slip to 6-11.

The visitors were paced by Daniel Janel (Fresh Meadows, NY) who scored 15 points shooting 50% from the floor. Tyler Rowe (East Hartford, Conn.) scored 14 points going 8-for-10 from the stripe and Isaiah Robinson (Lynn, Mass.) added 14 points from the bench for Conn. College.

The Rams were led by Tony Alexandre (Hyde Park, Mass.) who scored a game-high 21 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double. Manny Payton (Fitchburg, Mass.) added 14 points and Charles Valbrun (Hyde Park, Mass.) scored 8 points with 7 boards and a block.

The Camels led 32-31 coming out of the locker room for the second half and held a slight advantage for most of the second frame. A Valbrun layup with just over 4 minutes to play cut the Rams deficit to 57-55. The visitors then scored went on a 7-0 run that was snapped by a Payton trey with 50 seconds to play to cut the Camels lead to 64-58.

On the ensuing inbound the Rams forced the visitors to call a timeout and after a scrum a Conn. College player was given a technical foul. Daniel Gould (Quincy, Mass.) hit the back-end of the awarded free-throws and Payton hit another trey to cut the deficit to 64-62 with 27 seconds to play.

After the Rams fouled Rowe made the back-end of his pair of free throws, Alexandre drove to the hoop and scored as the Camels now led 65-64. The Rams again fouled, this time Rowe hit both of his shots from the stripe. With just 7 ticks remaining the Rams took a deep three-point attempt just before the buzzer but the shot was off.

The Rams shot 41.4% from the floor and 27.3% from long range. The visitors were 28.1% from the field and only 20% from beyond the arc.

The Rams return to the hardwood on Saturday, January 21st when they host Worcester State in MASCAC action. The Camels travel to Bates for a NESCAC matchup on Friday, January 20th
