Men's Basketball Topples NYU 65-59 at NYU Holiday Classic

New York, NY – The Framingham State University men's basketball team toppled host New York University 65-59 this evening at the opening day of the 2016 NYU Holiday Classic at the Sportsplex.

With the win, the Rams improve to 3-8 on the year, while NYU moves to 5-3 on the season.

The Rams saw four players tally double figures in the victory led by 17 points and six rebounds off the bench from senior Wesley Ogbevoen (Boston, Mass.).  Sophomore Manny Payton (Fitchburg, Mass.) added 16 points and five rebounds, while freshman Tyri Hampton (Fitchburg, Mass.) chipped in 11 points.  Junior Tony Alexandre (Hyde Park, Mass.) racked up a double double with 10 points and 14 boards.

The Rams led by four at the half and by as many as nine with 2:43 remaining in the game.  NYU cut the deficit to two on a deep three with 26 seconds remaining, but did not get any closer as sophomore Manny Payton (Fitchburg, Mass.) connected on 4-of-6 from the charity stripe in the final 19 seconds to seal the victory.

The Rams close out action at the NYU Tournament tomorrow night at 7 p.m. when they face Bates College.
