Men's Basketball Falls Short at Clark
Worcester, Mass. – The Framingham State University men's basketball team received a double double from junior Tony Alexandre (Hyde Park, Mass.) but the Rams were defeated 53-43 by Clark University this evening at the Kneller Athletic Center.
With the loss the Rams are now 2-6 on the season, while the Cougars improve to 6-2.
Neither team shot the ball well and neither shot better than 34 percent at any point in the contest.
Joe Atkinson (Milford, Mass.) made his way to the hoop for a basket as time expired in the first half, putting Clark on top 23-18 at the break.
The Rams, who led just once in the first half at 16-15, took the lead in the opening moments of the second half when Alexandre , Wesley Ogbevoen (Boston, Mass.) and Manny Payton (Fitchburg, Mass.) all scored to put Framingham State in front, 26-25.
That lead was short-lived as Adam Converse, who scored 10 points off the bench for the Cougars, came in and scored consecutive baskets to ignite a 9-1 run capped by a Luca McCormick (Bradenton, Fla.) traditional three-point play that gave Clark a 34-28 advantage.
The Cougars pushed their lead to nine at 40-31 when Brendan Kittredge (Clinton, Mass.) scored on an inside hoop, but Framingham State didn't go away and after a Tyri Hampton (Fitchburg, Mass.) bucket and a short jumper from Payton, the Rams were back to within four at 40-36.
As quickly as Framingham State closed the gap, Clark closed the door on a comeback, running off 11 unanswered points highlighted by two three-pointers from Atkinson.
Alexandre paced the Rams with 17 points on 8-of-13 from the floor and grabbed a game best 13 boards, while Ogbevoen and Ben Roache finished with seven points apiece.
The Rams are back on the road Saturday afternoon with a non-conference game at Nichols at 3 p.m.
