Men’s Basketball Earns Sixth Seed in 2016 MASCAC Basketball Tournament

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University men's basketball team has earned the sixth seed in this week's Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Basketball Tournament.

The Rams finished the regular season 5-20 overall and 2-10 in the MASCAC earning the final spot in the tournament over MCLA, who was also 2-10 in the league, by virtue of the conference tiebreaker policy.  The Rams will travel to third seed Bridgewater State University on Tuesday, February 23rd for a quarterfinal game beginning at 7:30 p.m.  The winner will advance to face second seed Salem State University on Thursday, February 25th at 7 p.m. in one semifinal.

The Rams were led this season by sophomore forward Tony Alexandre (Hyde Park, Mass.) who averaged 12.1 points and 8.5 rebounds on the year.  Senior Tim McCarthy (Wilmington, Mass.) followed closely behind averaging 10.4 points per game while shooting nearly 35% from behind the arc.

The tournament field is rounded out by fourth seed Worcester State University who hosts fifth seed Westfield State University on Tuesday in the other quarterfinal.  The winner of that contest will advance to face top seed Fitchburg State University on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the other semifinal.

The two semifinal winners will meet on Saturday at the highest remaining seed in the championship game. The winner of the championship game receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
