Men's Basketball Downed by Worcester State 70-58

Worcester, Mass. – The Framingham State University men's basketball team was defeated this afternoon 70-58 by Worcester State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at WPI's Harrington Auditorium.

With the win, the Lancers improve to 11-7 on the year and are now 3-2 in the MASCAC, while the Rams drop to 4-13 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

The Rams trailed by five (35-30) at the half, but surrendered a 7-2 run to start the second half as the Lancers opened up a 10 point lead.  The Lancers extended the lead to 51-36 midway through the frame, but the Rams chipped away pulling within eight (61-53) on a pair of free throws by Tim McCarthy (Wilmington, Mass.) with three minutes remaining.  The Lancers connected on 4-of-4 from the line in the final minute to seal the victory.

The Rams were led by 15 points and four assists from McCarthy, while junior Tim Mangano (Winchester, Mass.) chipped in with 13 points.  Junior Daniel Gould (Quincy, Mass.) added 10 points, while Alexandre finished with five points and six boards.

Paul Brooks (Arlington, Mass.) and Bilal Shakir (Worcester, Mass.) led the Lancers with 20 and 18 points respectively.   Brooks registered the only double-double of the game as he grabbed  12 boards to go along with his 18 points.  Shakir tallied a trio of threes en route to his game-high 20, while  Ryan DiBernardo (Springfield, Mass.) added 10 points.

The Lancers return to action on Wednesday when they face Westfield State. The Rams will travel to Fitchburg State on the same day for a 7:30 p.m. MASCAC tipoff.
