Men’s Basketball Toppled by MCLA 73-62

Framingham, Mass. – Senior Ruben Delrosario (Springfield, Mass.) led four Trailblazers in double figures with 15 points to propel MCLA to a 73-62 victory this afternoon over the Framingham State University men's basketball team in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at the Athletic Center.

With the win, the Trailblazers improve to 5-10 in the year and even their record at 2-2 in the conference, while the Rams fall to 5-10 overall and are now 0-4 in the conference.

The Rams opened up an 18-7 lead midway through the first half after a pair of threes from Tim McCarthy (Wilmington, Mass.) and a long ball and bucket in transition from Daniel Gould (Quincy, Mass.).  The Trailblazers closed the half with a spurt of their own including a lay-up in the closing seconds by Delrosario to take a 31-28 lead at the break.

The Rams took the lead (39-37) on a Gould three just over four minutes into the second, but the Trailblazers rattled off a 19-6 run fueled by two threes from Paul Maurice (Mattapan, Mass.) and a pair of hoops from Kenny Suggs (Brooklyn, NY) to take control of the game.  The Trailblazers extended the lead to as many as 14 (69-55) on a pair of Delrosario free throws.  The Rams cut the lead to eight with under a minute remaining on Gould's fifth three of the game, but that was as close as they would get.

Delrosario led all Trailblazers with his 15 points on 4-of-8 from the field and 6-of-6 from the line and added four assists and two steals.  Maurice finished with 12 points as he connected on 4-of-6 from behind the arc.  Senior Todd Hunt (Cambridge, NY) added 11 points, while Khalil Paul (Troy, NY) chipped in with 10 off the bench.

The Rams were led by a game-best 18 points from Gould who connected on 6-of-9 from the field including 5-of-8 from behind the arc.  McCarthy contributed 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting and filled the stat sheet with four rebounds and four assists, while senior Patrick Cuff (Medway, Mass.) chipped in with nine points.

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday evening when they travel to Salem State University in a MASCAC contest beginning at 7:30 p.m., while the Trailblazers are at Sage on Tuesday in a non-conference match-up also slated to tipoff at 7 p.m.
