Men’s Basketball Falls to Western Conn. 74-68

Framingham, MA- The Western Connecticut State Colonials defeated the Framingham State Rams by a score of 74-68 on Tuesday evening in Framingham. The game was the home opener for the Rams.

The Colonials posted a balanced attack having four players score in double figures. Western got off to a 13-2 lead just four minutes into the game but the Rams slowly chipped away. The Rams tied the score at 34 after two Colonial fouls setup up Tim McCarthy (Wilmington, Mass.) to hit three out of four free throws with just under three minutes in the half. A Patrick Cuff (Medway, Mass.) basket gave the Rams a 36-34 lead. The two teams traded baskets and the Rams ended the half with a 38-36 advantage.

Western came out of the break with five straight points to take a 41-38 lead and would not find themselves behind again. The Rams held the Colonials' lead to within a few points for most of the half. With just over five minutes remaining the Rams tied the score at 61 with a Cuff basket. The teams traded baskets and then the Colonials went on a 11-1 run to lead 72-64 with just over a minute to play.

The Colonials were led by Phil Starks (Bloomfield, Conn.) with 15 points and Jimmy Louissaint (Worcester, Mass.) with twelve. As a team Western shot 38% from the floor and 35% from long range.

For the Rams, McCarthy had nineteen points while Tony Alexandre (Hyde Park, Mass.) and Cuff registered double-doubles. Alexandre had eleven points and eleven rebounds and Cuff had eighteen points and ten rebounds.

The Rams return to action on Thursday, December 4th when they travel to Brandies at 7:00 p.m.
