Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University men's basketball team snapped a seven game losing streak with a 97-65 victory over the University of Maine at Fort Kent this evening in non-conference action at the Athletic Recreation Center.

With the victory, the Rams are now 8-16 on the year, while Bengals fall to 7-20.

Junior guard Ronnie DeBarros (New Bedford, Mass.) and freshman guard Dan Gould (Quincy, Mass.) led a balanced Ram scoring attack with 12 points apiece.  Gould connected on 4-of-5 from behind the arc en route to his 12 points.  Freshman Charles Collins (Lynn, Mass.) and junior forward George Jordan (Worcester, Mass.) chipped in with 10 points apiece. Jordan just missed a double double grabbing a team-best eight boards.  Sophomore guard Tim McCarthy (Winchester, Mass.) had a solid game for the hosts with nine points, three rebounds and six assists.

The Bengals were led by 15 points from sophomore Mauro Vicic (Kanafanar, Croatia) who connected on 5-of-6 from the floor, while classmate Fred Sanchez (Bronx, NY) chipped in with 14 points, three rebounds and two assists.  Junior James Givens (Fairfield, CA) finished with 12 points, three rebounds, six assists and a pair steals, while junior Jorge Matesanz (Sevilla, Spain) chipped 10 points, five assists and two steals.

After trading the lead for the first four minutes of the game, the Rams used a 14-2 run fueled by six points off the bench DeBarros to take the lead for good.  The Bengals countered with an 11-3 run of their own to pull within three with just under nine minutes remaining.  The Bengals spurt was fueled by their three point shooting including a three from Vicic and a basket in traffic to close the surge.  The Rams pushed the lead back to eight before taking a six point advantage into the locker room.

The Rams extended the lead to 20 points in the opening minutes of the second half before pulling away for the victory. The Rams shot 59% from the floor in the game (41-70) and 53% from behind the arc (9-17), while the Bengals shot 47% for the game (23-49) and only 35% from behind the arc.  The Rams received a strong game from their bench outscoring the Bengals bench 49-15 as every Ram who saw action in the game scored.

The Rams close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon when they host Worcester State at 3 p.m., while Bengals are back in action tomorrow night at Fisher College at 6 p.m.
