Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University men's basketball team received 18 points from freshman guard Dan Gould (Quincy, Mass.) as the Rams defeated Vaughn College 86-72 this evening in non-conference action at the Athletic Recreation Center.

The Rams are now 6-9 on the season, while the Warriors move to 8-7.

Dan Gould led all Rams with his team-best 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field including 4-of-6 from behind the arc.  Junior Patrick Cuff (Medway, Mass.) had a strong game inside for the Rams, who outscored the Warriors 42-22 in the paint, with 11 points and seven boards.  Freshman Tim Mangano (Winchester, Mass.) was the only other Ram to reach double figures with his 10 points on 4-of-6 from the floor.

The Warriors were led by the duo of sophomore guard Rashad Luckett (Chicago, IL) and freshman guard Michael Pena (Dumont, NJ) who tallied a game-high 21 points apiece.  Luckett connected on 8-of-18 from the field and filled the stat sheet with three rebounds, two assists and four steals.  Pena connected on 3-of-10 from long range and 8-of-9 from the line.

Framingham State jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead thanks in part to a pair of threes from Gould.  Vaughn used a 14-7 run fueled by five points including a three point play from Luckett to cut the Rams lead to 25-23 with 8:44 left in the half.  The Rams countered with a run of their own push the lead back to 11 before heading into the locker room with a 44-37 advantage.  Gould finished with 12 first half points for the Rams, while Luckett led the Warriors with 14.

Vaughn cut the Rams lead down to five (46-41) on a pair of Pena free throws just under two minutes into the second half, but the Rams rattled off an 18-0 run open up their largest lead of the night, 64-41.  Gould hit a pair from downtown during the stretch, while Cuff converted on a pair of shots in the paint.  The Warriors slowly chipped away at the Rams lead cutting it down to 11 on a pair of occasions including on a three by Pena with 32.7 left on the clock, but the Rams connected on 3-of-4 from the line in the final 30 seconds to seal the victory.

The Rams are back in action on Saturday afternoon at MCLA at 3 p.m., while the Warriors host Pratt Institute on January 23rd at 7:30 p.m.
