Men's Basketball Suffers First Loss of the Season at Brandeis

Waltham, Mass. -  The Brandeis University men's basketball team broke the century mark for the second time in three games this season, blowing past Framingham State for a 104-66 win. The Judges are now 3-0 on the season while the Rams suffered their first defeat, falling to 3-1.

Brandeis raced out of the blocks going on a 14-2 run in the first 4:19 of the game. All five starters had at least one basket during the run, finishing with an exclamation point dunk by senior guard Ben Bartoldus (Hillsborough, N.H.). The Judges continued to go on scoring spurts, reeling off 10-straight points to push ahead, 31-11, then 9-straight to stretch the lead to 52-27.

Brandeis finished the half up, 54-29.  Senior guard Game Moton (St. Petersburg, Fla.) led all players with 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, while senior guard Derek Retos (No. Attleboro, Mass.) added 11 points off the bench.

All 15 players scored for the Judges. Retos tied for game-high honors with 17, Moton chipped in with 14, and senior forward Alex Stoyle (Goffstown, N.H.) added 11 on 4-for-5 shooting. Senior center Youri Dascy (Fall River, Mass.) had a game-high seven rebounds in just 10 minutes off the bench.

Framingham State was led by rookie guard Charles Collins (Lynn, Mass.), who tied Retos with 17 points. Collins also tied Brandeis rookie Robinson Vilmont (Cambridge, Mass.) for game-high honors in steals with three. Senior forward Yemi Ajao (Randolph, Mass.) had seven points, four rebounds, and two blocks.

The Judges will play host to Rhode Island College at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The Rams travel to Mount Ida on Saturday at 1 p.m.
