Salem State Downs Men's Basketball 71-58

Salem, Mass - Senior forward Brian Clark (Deerfield, Mass.) racked up  a double-double with 22 points to and 11 rebounds as Salem State University defeated Framingham State  71-58 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's basketball action on Tuesday evening at Twohig Gymnasium.

The victory gives the Vikings back-to-back wins and improves their record to 9-6 overall, 2-1 in the MASCAC, while the Rams have lost four in a row and fall to 6-10 overall and 0-4 in the conference.

Salem State jumped out to an early 23-8 lead, as Brian Clark scored nine of the Vikings first 19 points. Framingham State closed the gap to 25-15 on a jumper by Tyrone Figueroa (Revere, Mass.), but a three-pointer by Jamel Williamson (Boston, Mass.) and four more points by Brian Clark, including an offensive put-back right before the half gave the Vikings a 36-20 halftime lead.

Chris Pareteau's (Lancaster, Mass.) four quick points and Nate Simpson's (Lowell, Mass.) dunk and layup extended the lead to 20 in the opening minutes of the second half. A Brian Clark basket gave Salem State its largest lead, 53-29 with just under nine minutes to go before the Vikings settled for a 13-point victory.

Figueroa, who finished with 17 points and seven rebounds, scored 11 of Framingham State's final 13 points. 

14 different players scored for Salem State with Simpson chipping in 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting and Apollos Wade (Taunton, Mass.) adding five points and seven assists. Hamed Akanni (Fitchburg, Mass.) contributed eight points off the bench for the Vikings.

Forward Jamie Henderson (Ducanville, TX) finished the game with his first double double of the season for the Rams with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Vikings host Fitchburg State at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, while Framingham State takes on MCLA at 8 p.m. on the same night.
