Men's Basketball Wins Overtime Thriller 92-89 Over Daniel Webster

Nashua, N.H. – Senior guard Marcus McLaurin (Braintree, Mass.) poured in 30 points as the Framingham State University men's basketball team picked up their first win of the season with a 92-89 victory over Daniel Webster College at Rivier College's All Metals Industries Classic this evening in New Hampshire.   The Rams watched a 23 point lead disappear but held on in overtime.

The Rams (1-2 overall) had a 50-27 lead late in the first half behind a strong performance from McLaurlin, who knocked down 3 three pointers on his way to a 12 point first half.\

Trailing 51-37 at halftime, Daniel Webster (0-1 overall) would battle back. Led by junior Keith Speed (Columbus, OH), the Eagles shot at a 53% clip. Speed would tie the game with nine seconds left on the clock as he drove down the lane for a tough layup in traffic.

In the overtime period, McLaurin put the team on his back and took home their first win of the season. McLaurin registered 8 of the team's 12 points in OT.

Speed finished the game with a team-high 29 points for the Eagles. John Hickson and Eric Suarez were the other two Eagles to reach the double-digit plateau as they had 12 and 11 points respectively.

McLaurin was the game-high scorer with his 30 points, while sophomore forward Tyrone Figueroa (Revere, Mass.) was the only other Ram to record double figures as he chipped in 14 points. Freshman guard Robert Jones (Cohasset, Mass.) dished out 7 assists in the win.

Tomorrow both teams will be back in action as Daniel Webster will take on Fitchburg State at 12 p.m. Framingham State will battle against host Rivier College at 2 p.m.
