Brandeis Edges Men's Basketball, 63-59

Framingham, MA - Brandeis had four players score in double figures as the visiting Judges edged the Framingham State Rams 63-59 at Framingham's Athletic & Recreation Center this afternoon.  With the win, the Judges are a perfect 6-0, while the Rams are 3-4.

Despite committing 22 turnovers on the day, the Rams remained close to the Judges and were even able to take the lead 51-49 on a lay up by Rob Scarpato (Holliston, MA) with 6:41 remaining.  On their ensuing possession, the Judges took the lead for good on a three pointer from Florian Rexhepi (Skopje, Macedonia) and would extend the lead back to four points with just under three minutes to play.

The Rams cut the lead to one with 32 seconds left on two free throws by sophomore Josue Almodovar (Holyoke, MA).  Joe Coppens hit two free throws for Brandeis to extend the lead back to three with 28 seconds remaining.  Then Framingham sharp shooter Bill Carey (Abington, MA) had a clean look at a three on the Rams next possession but the ball rattled out and the Judges grabbed the rebound.  Brandeis hit one of two freebies to push the lead back to four.  Senior guard Mike Costa (Holbrook, MA) pushed the ball and cut the lead back to two with a layup with eight seconds left but that was as close as the Rams would come.

The Rams had their chances in the game but were cold from the free throw line as they shot 8 of 15 from the stripe for the game including some key misses late in the second half.  Almodovar finished the day with 13 points and 11 boards.  Carey and freshman Michael Hines (Boston, MA) chipped in 13 points apiece.

Brandeis was led by sophomore Terrell Hollins (Springfield, MA), who had 12 points and a game-high 14 boards, and junior Kevin Olson (Rockport, MA) who also had 12 points.  Rexhepi and Andre Roberson (Springfield, MA) added 10 points apiece.

The Rams return to action next Tuesday as they host Wentworth at 5:30 p.m., while the Judges return to action on Tuesday at Clark at 7 p.m.
