Men's Basketball Picks Up First Win of the Season

Framingham, MA - The Framingham State College men's basketball team picked up their first win of the season tonight at home 106-62 over the visiting Eagles of Daniel Webster College.  The Rams are now 1-2 on the young season and the Eagles are also 1-2.

After falling behind by as many as nine points with 10:59 remaining in the opening half, the Rams offense came alive and out scored the Eagles 28-7 over the final eleven minutes to open up a twelve point lead at the break.  The Rams finished the first half shooting an impressive 17 of 35 (48.6%) including 6 of 11 from behind the arc, while the Eagles were 12 of 36 from the floor (33.3%) and only 4 of 13 from behind the arc.  The Rams also held a decided advantage in points in the paint in the first half, 22-10.  Sophomore forward Josue Almodovar (Holyoke, MA) led the Rams with 15 first half points and five boards.

The Rams hot shooting continued in the second half as they extended their lead to as many 46 points late in the second.  The Rams finished the game shooting 58.9% from the floor and an impressive 56.5% from three for the game (13 of 23) and out scored the Eagles in the paint 58-30 for the game.  Almodovar finished with a game-high 22 points and 10 boards, while fellow sophomore Bill Carey (Abington, MA) picked up 16 points including 4 of 6 from long range.  Junior Michael Tanglis (N. Andover, MA) chipped in 14 points including 4 of 4 from behind the arc; while freshman Michael Hines (Boston, MA) added 10 points, five rebounds and five assists and senior Mike Costa (Holbrook, MA) added nine points, six rebounds, seven assists and four steals.

Freshman Chris Hanson (Salem, MA) led the Eagles with 15 points including 4 of 11 from behind the arc, while junior Tim Jackson (W. Henrietta, NY) added 11 points and five rebounds. 

The Rams return to action this Friday as the travel to UMass Boston for the 23rd Annual Harbor Invitational Tournament where they face UMaine-Fort Kent in the first game at 5:30 p.m., while the Eagles host Anna Maria next Tuesday at 8 p.m.
