Men's Basketball Cruises to 76-53 Win Over Westfield State

Framingham, MA - Sophomore guard Bill Carey (Abington, MA) connected on 7 of 10 from behind the arc and finished with a game-high 24 points to lift the host Framingham State Rams to a 76-53 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) win over the visiting Owls of Westfield State.  With the win, the Rams improve to 8-11 overall and 3-3 in conference, while the Owls move to 12-6 overall and 2-3 in conference.

The Rams opened up a 43-29 lead at the half as they were on fire connecting on 50% of their shots from the field (15 of 30) including am impressive 67% (6 of 9) from behind the arc.  The Owls struggled from the floor in the opening half as they only shot 32% from the field and were just 1 of 9 from long range.  Carey scored 20 of his 24 points in the first half as he was 7 of 9 from the floor and 6 of 7 from long range in the first twenty minutes.

Despite committing 15 turnovers in the second half, the Rams were able to extend their lead to as many as 23 in the final frame as they connected on 14 of 22 free throws and continued to shoot well from the floor.  Senior captains Michael Costa (Holbrook, MA) and Rob Scarpato (Hopkinton, MA) added 11 points apiece for the Rams.  Costa also added five assists and four steals, while Scarpato grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds.

The Owls were led by juniors Dave Jaehnig (Quincy, MA) and Adam Morley (Lakeville, MA) who had 11 points apiece.

The Rams return to action next Tuesday as they travel to MCLA for a 7:30 p.m. game, while the Owls host MCLA on Saturday at 3 p.m.
