Men's Basketball Opens Conference Play with Win over MCLA

Framingham, MA - Behind 21 points and six rebounds from freshman guard Michael Hines (Boston, MA), the Framingham State College men's basketball team began Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) play with an 80-73 win at home tonight over the visiting Trailblazers of MCLA.  With the win, the Rams are now 1-0 in conference and 6-8 overall, while the Trailblazers are 5-7 overall and 0-1 in conference.

The Rams shot well from the floor for the game (42%) and were able to overcome 26 turnovers en route to the win.  Hines led four Rams in double figures with a team-high 21 points on 7 of 12 from the field and 6 of 7 from the charity stripe.  Senior guard Michael Costa (Holbrook, MA) chipped in 15 points, including 10 in the first half, and four steals, while sophomore Josue Almodovar (Holyoke, MA) picked up his sixth double double of the season with 13 points and 13 rebounds.  Freshman guard Royce Veal (Dorchester, MA) added 10 points.

The Trailblazers were led by senior center Henry Schrader (Fitchburg, MA) who was 11 for 14 from the field for a game-high 23 points and seven rebounds.  Fellow senior Dave Bisesi (Syracuse, NY) added 13 points and five steals, while freshman center Jon Greenberg (S. Yarmouth, MA) added 10 points and five boards.

The Framingham State Rams return to action on Saturday January 19th, 2008 as they travel to Bridgewater State at 2 p.m., while the MCLA Trailblazers host Southern Vermont on Thursday at 7 p.m.
