USM Shoots Past Field Hockey; 4-1

Framingham, Mass. The Framingham State field hockey team was defeated by Southern Maine by a score of 4-1 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon in Framingham.  

THE BASICS: 

- Score:  Southern Maine 4, Framingham State 1 

- Records:Framingham State (0-3), Southern Maine (3-1) 

- Location: Maple Street Field – Framingham, Mass. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Huskies jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead when Mary Keef finished off a pass from Abigial Chartier in the 4th minute. 

  • The Rams answered on a corner play late in the first when Ashley Malmquist finished off the setup from Isabella Kondi and Kaitlin Loughlin. 

  • Norie Tibbets and Brooke Carson scored in quick succession midway through the second to send the Huskies into the break leading 3-1.  

  • Haley-Jane Tuplin scored in the 53rd minute to reach the final margin.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Rams goalie Kaitlyn Tello made one save in net for the Rams before being relievd by Angelina Barrett who made six stops in the second half. Cori Lawson was credited with a defensive save on the day as well 

  • Eleanor Folsom made four stops in net for the Huskies and Jenessa Foster made a stop on defense.  

  • The visitors outshot the Rams by a 18-to-8 margin despite the Rams earning 10 penalty corners to the USM 9. 

UP NEXT: 

The Rams return to action on Tuesday evening when they travel to Rivier for non- conference action at 5pm. USM will travel to Bowdoin for a 7pm tilt on the same day.
