Top Seeded Southern Maine Edges Field Hockey in LEC Tournament

Gorham, Maine. The top seeded University of Southern Maine broke a 2-2 tie with just over five minute to play in regulation to defeat the eighth seeded Framingham State Rams in the opening round of the Little East Conference Field Hockey Tournament. The Rams see their season close after qualifying for the LEC Tournament for the first time since 2009.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Huskies scored a goal in each of the first two quarters. First Brooke Carlson scored off a setup from Abigail Chartier midway through the first. 

  • Samantha Ellis finished off a rebound early in the second to put the Huskies up 2-0.  

  • About ten ticks into the third Natalia Roehr tipped in a loose ball from Brandi Core to get the Rams on the board.  

  • About ten minutes later the Rams tied it up on an Isabella Kondi goal with an assist from Abby Clark.

  • Southern Maine answered a few moments later when Sage Drinkwater sent in a lead pass to Adelle Surette who send a long strike inside the left post to give the Huskies the lead.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Rams keeper Kaitlin Louglin made 10 stops in goal for FSU.  

  • Julianna Kiklis made six saves in the win for Southern Maine.  

  • The Huskies held a large advantage in shots 23to-9 and were awarded 14 penalty corners to the Rams 7.
