Field Hockey Drops LEC Clash with Southern Maine

Gorham, ME. The Framingham State field hockey team was defeated by Southern Maine in Little East Action Tuesday evening in Gorham.

THE BASICS:

- Score: Southern Maine 6, Framingham State 1

- Records: Framingham State (7-5, 3-4 LEC), Southern Maine (9-5, 7-1 LEC)

- Location: Hannaford Field – Gorham, ME

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Brooke Carson started the Huskies' scoring tapping in an assist from sophomore Sage Drinkwater in the eighth minute.  Drinkwater doubled the Husky lead in the 21st minute on a spectacular goal off of a pass from Chloe Arsenault.  Arsenault received the inserted pass from Carson on a penalty corner and then lofted the ball over the defense to Drinkwater who was waiting on the far post for the tap in.

  • USM led 3-0 in the 24th minute when Carson scored her second goal of the game – this time on a feed from junior Hannah Banks.

  • The Rams answered before the half, gaining some momentum, as Natalia Roehr collected a loose ball in the circle for her fourth goal of the season in the 28th minute, keeping FSU in the game at 3-1.

  • USM wasted little time in the second regaining a three-goal lead as Samantha Ellis  knocked in a goal in the 35th minute, before Carson rocketed in her third goal of the game in the 49th for a 5-1 lead following an assist from junior Mary Keef.

  • Ellis rounded out the Husky scoring in the 53rd minute, collecting a rebounded save for the brace.

  • USM freshman Eleanor Folsom picked up her second win of the season, making seven saves.  The Rams Kaitlin Loughlin played well in net, making six saves.

  • Each team earned a defensive save in the game.  Haylee Girouard cleared a goal off the line for the Rams, while USM junior Jordan Cummings had a defensive save in the first quarter.
