Plymouth State Comes from Behind to Defeat Field Hockey 4-3

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University field hockey team led early but surrendered three fourth quarter goals as the Plymouth State Panthers came from behind to secure a 4-3 victory over the Rams in Little East Conference (LEC) action at Maple Street Field.

-Records: Framingham State (2-3, 0-2 LEC), Plymouth State (4-2, 2-0 LEC)

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Rams got on the board just over a minute into the contest. Corlene Guenard sent the ball into the circle and Abby Clark corralled the pass and found the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. 

  •  The Panthers had their chances in the second period, but Rams netminder Kaitlin Loughlin came up with a pair of big saves. 

  • The Rams extended their lead to 2-0 midway through the third quarter. Clark sent a blast towards the net that was redirected into the cage by Natalia Roehr for the goal. 

  • Plymouth State answered with two straight goals tying the game at 2-2. With just over four to play in the third, Savanah Connor sent a pass into the circle and Amy Cohen found the back of the net. 

  • Just under two minutes into the fourth, Taylor Healey corralled a rebound and found the back of the net for the game tying goal. 

  • The Panthers took their first lead of the game (3-2) on an unassisted goal from Cohen with 5:26 left on the clock in the fourth. 

  • The lead was short lived as the Rams tied the game at 3-3 when Kaylee Beck and Guenard connected with 3:44 remaining. 

  • Just under two minutes later, Healey found the back of the net for the Panthers for what would prove to be the game-winner. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • The Panthers out shot the Rams 23-22 in the game, but the Rams held an 11-9 edge in penalty corners. 

  • The Panthers received two goals apiece in the game from Healey and Cohen. 

  • Guenard and Clark finished the game with a goal and a helper apiece for the Rams. 

  • Piper Sherbert earned the victory in the cage making 10 stops, while Laughlin took the loss despite making 16 saves.

The Rams are back in action on Thursday when they host Rivier at 7 p.m., while the Panthers host UMass Dartmouth next Saturday at 3 p.m.
