GORHAM, Maine – Six different players scored as the University of Southern Maine Huskies' field hockey team earned a key  6-1 win over the Framingham State University Rams in a key Little East Conference game Saturday afternoon at Hannaford Field.

With the win, Southern Maine improves to 5-11 overall, and 4-6 in the Little East Conference.  Framingham State drops to 3-12, and 1-9 in the conference.

The Huskies scored three goals in each half en route to their second six-goal game of the season.  Southern Maine dominated possession and held a distinct 21-2 advantage in shots, and a 9-1 lead in penalty corners at the conclusion of the game.

Southern Maine took control early when senior Lindsay Jackson (Readfield, Maine/Maranacook) put the Huskies ahead in the third minute.  In the 10th minute,  sophomore Kaylee Leclerc (Jay, Maine/Spruce Mountain) made it 2-0 in favor of the Huskies, before junior Brooke Dugan (Thomaston, Maine/Oceanside) laced in a shot off of a rebound to make it 3-0 in favor of the Huskies in the 19th minute.  Framingham State broke up the shutout bid before the end of the half, when junior Sydney Buono (Ashburnham, Mass./Cushing Academy) cleaned up a rebounded save in the 26th minute to make it 3-1 at the break.

Husky senior Tayla Smedberg (Oxford, Maine/Oxford Hills) put USM ahead 4-1 in the 46th minute, before junior Kerigan Demers (Westbrook, Maine) and freshman Olivia Brown (Palmyra, Maine/Nokomis) scored back-to-back goals in the 55th and 58th minute for the 6-1 final.

Southern Maine freshmen goalkeepers McKenzie Cormier (Hiram, Maine/Sacopee Valley) and Anna Huff (Norway, Maine/Oxford Hills) split time in goal.  Cormier earned the start and played 35 minutes, making one save and allowing one goal.  Huff closed out the game, and did not face a shot in the final 35. FSU junior Haley Dugan (Framingham, Mass.) made 12 saves for the Rams in the loss.

Southern Maine returns to action on Thursday (3:30 pm) hosting Bates College in a non-conference game.  Framingham State travels to Nichols on Thursday (4:00 pm) in a non-conference.
