Big First Half Sends Fitchburg Over Field Hockey

Framingham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State field hockey team received a pair of first-half goals each from Aislinn DeHorsey (Leominster, Mass.) and Molly Richard (Leominster, Mass.) to lead them to a 5-3 victory over Framingham State in Little East action Saturday morning at Maple Street Field.

With the win the Falcons improve to 6-4 and 3-4 in Little East play. The Rams are now 2-10 and 1-6 in the league.

The Falcons got on the board in the 8th minute when DeHorsey scored with an assist from Bailey Miller (Leominster, Mass.). DeHorsey struck again in the 20th minute to extend the Falcons lead to 2-0.

The Rams answered just a few moments later when Bailey Donelly (Framingham, Mass.) scored on a corner play with an assist from Meaghann Ackerman (Littleton, Mass.).

The Falcons tallied two more in the half when Richard scored two unassisted goals in the 26th and 33rd minutes.

The Rams cut the Falcons lead back to two heading to the break when Caitlin Baril (Lakeville, Mass.) scored in the final minute of the half with an assist coming from Mycala Moody (North Attleboro, Mass.). 

The Rams go within one goal when Amie Souza (Taunton, Mass.) gathered a rebound off a save and sent it home with just over twelve minutes to play.

After a timeout the Falcons added an insurance goal at the 65-minute mark when Sophia Laperle (Auburn, Mass.) sent in a one-time pass from Richard to reach the final margin. 

Haley Duggan (Framingham, Mass.) made 16 stops in the setback for Framingham State. Rhiannon Fletcher (Royalston, Mass.) turned away 8 shots in net for Fitchburg.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday, October 10th when they travel to UMass Dartmouth for Little East action. The Falcons travel to Eastern Connecticut State on the same day.
