Field Hockey Blanked at Western Connecticut

Danbury, Conn. – The Framingham State field hockey team was shutout 5-0 in Little East Conference action on the road at Western Connecticut State Saturday afternoon in in Danbury.

With the victory, Western improved to 4-11 overall and 2-9 in league play, while the Rams fall to 2-13 and 1-9.

Rookies Melissa Krim (South Easton, MA) and Allie Noteware (New Milford, CT) each notched their first career goals in the winning effort for the Colonials.

The hosts broke the ice when Noteware redirected a shot into the back of the cage less than 15 minutes into the contest. Moments later, Krim blasted a shot that deflected off a defender into the net, giving Western a 2-0 advantage. Krim tallied her second goal of the game, shortly thereafter, when she took a feed from classmate Jacalyn Doerwald (Washington, CT) and ticked the twine, widening the gap to 3-0 at the break.

The barrage continued in the second stanza. Rookie Shannon Lynch (Sandy Hook, CT) netted her second goal of the season when she broke in alone a ripped a shot just inside the right post, extending the lead to 4-0. Sophomore Olympia Moulton (Baldwinville, MA) rounded out the scoring with her third goal of the season, assisted by junior Greta McConnell (Norwalk, CT).

Senior goalkeeper Kristy Trotta (Danbury, CT) racked up four saves to earn the win and move to 4-11 overall, while rookie Elizabeth Fagan (Port Jefferson Station, NY) came in on relief to record a save. Along with Trotta, classmates Brianna Reda (New Milford, CT) and Bryanna Willaby (Branford, CT) were honored before the game to celebrate Senior Day.

The Rams host Nichols on Tuesday, October 18th in non-conference action scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
