Field Hockey Falls in Overtime Thriller with Mount Ida

Framingham, Mass.- The Framingham State University field hockey team lost by a score of 4-3 in overtime in a back-and-forth non-conference matchup with Mount Ida Wednesday evening at Maple Street Field. With the win the Mustangs improve to 8-4 while the Rams move to 2-10.

The Rams got on the board in the 13th minute when the Rams converted on a penalty corner. Bailey Donelly (Framingham, Mass.) sent the corner into the top of the arc where Meaghann Ackerman (Littleton, Mass.) sent a screaming shot through traffic into the back of the cage.

Mount Ida evened the score in the 19th minute when Lexi Minicucci (Westfield, Mass.) gathered a deflected pass on a corner and sent in past the Rams goalie.

Just a few moments later Patty Ryan (Livermore Falls, ME) gave the Mustangs the lead when she overpowered a Rams defender in front of the net to gather a loose ball and send it home.

After both teams had opportunities to score in the second frame it was the Rams who finally were able to convert tying the game in the 55th minute. Sydney Buono (Ashburnham, Mass.) sent a strike from Jillian Kokernak (Worcester, Mass.) into the back of the net to knot the contest at two.

The Rams took the lead in the 65th minute when Donelly started a penalty corner, passed to Ackerman who sent a rocket that was tipped in front by Donelly.

The Mustangs answered just less than three minutes later on a corner of their own. Cregan Callahan (Diamond Point, NY) sent a corner to Minicucci who beat the Rams keeper to her left side to tie the game back and force overtime.

The Mustangs struck early in overtime gaining possession and Melissa McNamara (Wilminton, Mass.) gained possession and streaked down the middle of the field beating Ram defenders and eventually keeper with just 17 seconds coming off the clock.

Grace Ryan (Livermore Falls, ME) made four saves in the win for Mount Ida. Haley Duggan (Framingham, Mass.) made seven stops in goal for the Rams.

The Rams return to action on Saturday, October 8th when they host the University of Southern Maine in a Little East matchup. The Mustangs will travel to Lasell on the same day for GNAC action.
