Baril’s Hat-trick Earns Field Hockey First LEC Win

Framingham, Mass.- Framingham State's Caitlin Baril (Lakeville, Mass.) scored three goals to propel the Rams over visiting Salem State 5-1 in a Little East Conference field hockey matchup Saturday evening in Framingham.

The Rams have won their last two games to move their record to 2-5 and 1-4 LEC. The Vikings fall to 1-5 and 0-5 in league play.

The Rams opened up the scoring in the 19th minute when Caitlin Baril scored her first goal of the night to take a 1-0 lead. The Vikings answered in the 31st minute when Courtney Kilgore (Wakefield, Mass.) gathered a loose ball in front and sent it into the cage.

The Rams rebounded for four straight second half goals. Meaghann Ackerman (Littleton, Mass.) scored in the 46th minute followed by Baril's second of the night with Mycala Moody (North Attleboro, Mass.) assisting.  In the 55th minute Bailey Donelly (Framingham, Mass.) scored her second of the season to extend the lead to 4-1.  With just under two minutes to play Baril completed her hat-trick to reach the final 4-1 margin

Haley Duggan (Framingham, MA) made three stops in net for the Rams. Carolyn Woodin (Arlington, Mass.) made 17 saves in setback for the Vikings.

The Rams outshot the Vikings 28-to-4 in the contest including 18-to-1 in the second frame. The Rams were awarded 14 penalty corners to Salem's five.

The Rams return to action tomorrow when they play Mary Washington at Tufts University at noon. The Vikings return to the field on Wednesday, September 28th when they host Plymouth State.
