Strong Second Half Pushes Bridgewater State Past Field Hockey

Bridgewater, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University field hockey team tallied five second half goals as they defeated the Framingham State University Rams 6-3 in Little East Conference (LEC) field hockey action this evening.

With the win, the Bears improve to 5-3 on the season and are now 2-2 in the conference. The loss drops the Rams to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in the Little East.

Bridgewater State struck first in a scoreless game in the 31^st minute.  Kelsey Kiely made a nice move around the Rams keeper for her first of the game giving the Bears a 1-0 lead at the intermission.

Kieley extended the Bears lead to 2-0 just under two minutes into the second half, before FSU junior Sharon Sears (East Bridgewater, Mass.) knotted the game at 2-2 with a pair of goals. Sears struck first in the 44^th minute when she took a pass from senior Cady Kelly (Canton, Mass.) at the top of the circle and sent a shot past the Bears keeper.  Four minutes later, Sears knocked home a rebound in the circle for her third of the season.

Bridgewater State would rattle off three straight goals to take control of the game leading 5-2 with under six minutes remaining.

Freshman Hannah Carnes (Taunton, Mass.) scored off a cross from senior Samantha Pajer (Leicester, Mass.) at 66:02 but that was as close as they would get.  The Bears would tack on another goal off a corner with time expired.

The Bears outshot the Rams 23-12 and held a 14-6 edge in penalty corners.  Senior Rosemary Talbot (Whitinsville, Mass.) made four saves in 37 minutes of work and took the loss, while junior Alexandra Ricco (Agawam, Mass.) surrendered four goals and made four saves in her 33 minutes of action.

The Rams are back in action on Thursday with a non-conference game against Becker College at 4 p.m.at Maple Street Field.
