Framingham, Mass. – Senior Peyton Dostie tallied a pair of goals and picked up three assists as the University of Southern Maine field hockey team defeated the Framingham State University Rams 5-2 on the road this afternoon in Little East Conference (LEC) field hockey at Maple Street Field.

Framingham State falls to 6-8 on the year and dips to 2-6 in the conference, while the Huskies improve to 7-9 overall and even their mark at 4-4 in the Little East.

Southern Maine grabbed the early lead with a goal off a corner under a minute into the first half.  Senior Rebecca Pratt inserted the ball to Dostie at the top of the circle.  Dostie dropped a pass off to junior Allison Ward who fired a shot into the cage.

The Rams answered with the game tying goal midway through the half.  Senior Rhea Urbaniak (Chelmsford, Mass.) sent a shot into the circle.  Junior Cady Kelly (Canton, Mass.) redirected the ball to sophomore Lynne Sirchia (Goshen, Conn.) who tipped the ball past the Huskie keeper.  Southern Maine took the lead back with just over eight minutes left in the first as Dostie scored off a pass from sophomore Kyrstyn Keating.

The Huskies extended the lead to two goals when Dotsie tallied her second of the game with 33:21 left in the second. The Rams answered five minutes later when Kelly knocked home her second of the game. This one off an Emma Littlefield (Rockport, Mass.) assist on a penalty corner.

Dostie had a hand in the Huskies final two goals of the day.  First, she set up Michaela Demers with a cross on the right side of the circle.  Demers fired a shot inside the far post putting the Huskies up 4-2 with 20 minutes remaining. Seven minutes later, Dostie set up Jennifer Poulin with a cross in front of the cage and Poulin connected to reach the final margin.

The Huskies outshot the Rams 17-5 in the game and held a 5-1 edge in penalty corners.  Amanda Kasbohm recorded the save in goal for the visitors making two stops, while junior Rosemary Talbot (Whitinsville, Mass.) made five saves and suffered the loss.  Freshman Amino Ndoro (Framingham, Mass.) saw her first action in the cage for the Rams this season and made one stop in 13 minutes of work.

The Rams close the season with three straight Little East games on the road beginning with Plymouth State University on Tuesday at 3 p.m., while the Huskies travel to LEC rival Worcester State University on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
