Framingham, Mass. – The Western Connecticut State University field hockey team saw five different players scored goals as they defeated Framingham State University 5-1 this afternoon in Little East Conference action at Maple Street Field.

Western Connecticut improves to 6-4 on the year and 3-1 in the conference, while the Rams fall to 3-6 overall and are still in search of their first LEC victory of the season at 0-4

Western Connecticut took the lead just under ten minutes into the game as they converted on their first penalty corner of the contest.  Junior Lauren Allen (Fairfield, Conn.) inserted the ball from the end line to junior Jenny Cappello (Litchfield, Conn.).  Cappello fired a shot from the top of the circle and Allen slipped in behind a Ram defender to redirect the ball into the cage.

They extended their lead to 3-0 with a pair of goals five minutes apart later in the frame. Junior Heidi Odenwaelder (Goshen, Connn.) found the back of the net with 18:26 on the clock when she knocked home a shot from junior Caitlin Ogrizovich (New Fairfield, Conn.).  Sophomore Tatum Seaver (North Haven, Conn.) scored off a Cappello assist with 13:17 on the clock giving the Colonials the 3-0 advantage that they would take into the break.

The Colonials would add a pair of unassisted second half tallies by Kristy Matasavage (Middlebury, Conn.) in the 57th minute and Morgan O'Dell (Brookfield, Conn.) in the 63rd to extend the lead to 5-0.  The Rams would finally get on the board with 26 seconds remaining when junior Cady Kelly (Canton, Mass.) knocked in a loose ball in front of the Colonials net.

The Colonials outshot the Rams 19-12 in the game and held an 11-7 edge in corners.  Sophomore Kristy Trotta (Danbury, Conn.) made four saves and did not allow a goal in 57 minutes of action in the cage, while junior Kaeley DeNege (North Branford, Conn.) allowed one goal with one save in 13 minutes of action for the Colonials.  Junior Rosemary Talbot (Whitinsville, Mass.) made six saves and was tagged with the loss for the Rams.

The Rams are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Becker College for a non-conference tilt at 4:30 p.m., while Colonials are off until Saturday when they host Keene State in Little East action at 6 p.m.
