Souza's Four Goals Leads Field Hockey Past New England College

Henniker, N.H. — Framingham State University freshman forward Amie Souza (Taunton, Mass.) netted four goals to lead the visiting Rams past the New England College Pilgrims 8-0 in non-conference field hockey action Thursday afternoon.

With the win the Rams improve to 2-1 overall, while the loss drops the Pilgrims to 0-6 overall.

Framingham would open the scoring ten minutes into the game as the Rams would net two goals in a 30 second span, including a goal by senior Emma Littlefield (Rockport, Mass.) off a corner and a score by Souza off a nice pass from sophomore Kirsten Terrien (Attleboro, Mass.).

Framingham would extend their lead to 3-0 as junior Cady Kelly (Canton, Mass.) would put in a loose ball in front of the net in the 15ht minute.  Souza would wrap up the first half scoring with just under eight minutes to play netting her second goal of the game.  She one-timed a feed in front from teammate Rhea Urbaniak (Chelmsford, Mass.) as the Rams would head into the intermission up 4-0.

Framingham would continue the offensive dominance in the second half of play with four unanswered goals throughout the period, including two by Souza and one by Shannon O'Malley (Worcester, Mass.) and another by Lynne Sirchia (Goshen, Conn.).

The Pilgrims would have a few scoring opportunities in the second half but would not be able to muster a goal.  Framingham finished the game out shooting NEC 32-4 and held the 14-0 advantage in penalty corners.

Picking up the win in net for Framingham was Rosemary Talbot (Whitinsville, Mass.) who finished with two saves.  NEC's Michaela Clark (Dorchester, Mass.) and Karlie Bove (Jefferson, Mass.) split time in net as Clark notched 10 saves and Bove finished with six saves.

NEC returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 13 when they host non-conference opponent Manhattanville College.  Framingham will hit the field again on Saturday, Sept. 13 when they open Little East play hosting UMass Dartmouth.
