Field Hockey Falls to UMaine Farmington 3-1

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University field hockey team surrendered a pair of first half goals as they were defeated 3-1 this afternoon by the University of Maine Farmington in non-conference action at Maple Street Field.   

Framingham State is now 1-1 on the young season, while the Beavers are 1-0.

Junior Delainey Kein got the Beavers on the board when she converted off a Lindsey Whitney assist in the circle with 22:53 remaining in the first.  Susan Newkirk extended their Beavers advantage when she tallied her first of the season.

The Rams cut the deficit in half on freshman Amie Souza's (Taunton, Mass.) goal just over five minutes into the second.  Senior Rhea Urbaniak (Chelmsford, Mass.) assisted on Souza's marker.  Carly Ramond added an insurance goal for Maine with just over four minutes remaining to reach the final margin.

The Beavers outshot the Rams 14-11 in the game, while the Rams held a 7-4 edge in corners.  Rosemary Talbot (Whitinsville, Mass.) picked up the loss in net despite making nine saves, while Patricia Smith earned the victory with nine stops.

The Rams are back in action next Thursday when they to New England College for a non-conference match-up at 4 p.m., while Beavers return to the field tomorrow at Wheelock at 1 p.m.
